Going to do the whole crew most likely. But I wonder who I should do next.... Hmmmm...
This was slightly based off a sketch I did
[link] which got me to wondering how Turbo would look in an SNES type game if given the chance. The game programmers obviously don't know that his anatomy is different when going by the game-verse reality of things (as evidenced in the movie) and would instead be focusing on the old pixel design and using elements from that and the cabinet art to keep him recognizable to people who've played the game.
In other words, think of the visual evolution of Mario.
"...It all started...yesterday"
Very well done.
The line and shading sets are really professional looking. Is this its actual size or did you zoom in to post this? Either way it's wicked, def. not enough fullbody (NON moving sparkledog icons) pixel art submissions around here on dA.
Geeze! No offence to you, this is a great sprite, but Turbo is just plain creepy. I can't imagine he had a very long career, even outside of Litwak's arcade.
A lot of games had extremely limited palates and characters with oddly colored skin. In fact, WIR breaks the typical color palate available that I can think of in a game from its era. Turbo is more correct to the NES palate standard as well as some arcade ones. (until 16 bit became popular)
It wouldn't be unusual for a 8bit to get a design reboot to be more realistic in both flesh tones and designs. Although it is still eerie that the programmers chose the scheme they did for Turbo, but then again - not entirely! Turbo's color complements his earth tone environments similar to the main player from Excitebike, who had white skin and similar background colors.
I thought it would be kind of cool if the programmers (if they did do a SNES styled game) would make the game's theme more occult with the main player and NPCs being zombies.
